For two weeks over the summer, young people from Islington took part in a project to create media content for social action, exploring nature and the environment through photojournalism and documentary making.

Our journey took us litter picking down the canal in Hackney, exploring local community gardens, telling stories about our environment through photography, and taking to the streets to vox pop members of the public and hear their thoughts on the natural world.

In week 1, young people took thoughtful and poignant pictures to convey their feelings within greenspaces and demonstrate their media skills. This culminated in the creation of their own photojournalism postcards.

Week 2 saw the young people explore their documentary-making skills, learning filming and interview techniques to carry out vox pops with the public.

The video below provides a snippet of the session's events and the young people’s brilliant content creation.

This project was produced as a collaboration between Summerversity and Headliners (UK).
