We recently took a group of young people on our London Green Champions project to "Growing Communities" in Hackney to learn about sustainable, healthy and affordable food which supports the local community.

Growing Communities advocates ecological and sustainable farming while supporting the community and championing healthy eating. They use natural resources, renewable energy sources and grow seasonal salads and plants which can be bought by residents through a salad box scheme.

Understanding how sustainable and eco-friendly farming positively impacts the environment is another element of the London Green Champions project along with community action and volunteering.

The young people were able to try many of the herbs grown and even had freshly made lemon tea and mint tea from leaves they picked themselves, as well as taking home cuttings to try growing their own herbs!

Thank you to the National Lottery Community Fund for making these sessions possible.
