Earlier this year, our London Green Champions project worked with young people from Hatcham College, Lewisham.

As a borough, Lewisham fails to meet the top 50% of London boroughs in terms of accessibility to greenspace, limiting opportunities to engage with wildlife. Knowing this, we challenged our London Green Champions to use photography to capture aspects of nature that interested them, in their local park on Telegraph Hill.

Here’s a few examples of what they shot:

Throughout their 12-week project, the group worked towards building practical skills in photography to put together a portfolio for a OCN Level 1 Accreditation in photography, whilst learning ways that humans can harm and help nature.

A sample of their photos captured in their local greenspace were later showcased as part of our Young Voices exhibition held at St Margaret's House's Gallery Cafe earlier this year. From the experience, many of the participants have found a new interest in their local greenspace and continued their media journey through starting GCSE photography.

This project was produced as a collaboration between Headliners and Haberdashers' Hatcham College

Thank you to the National Lottery Community Fund and The Jack Petchey Foundation for making these sessions possible.
