My day as....“MISS DIRECTOR”...
Friday 12th November 2010 was Takeover Day where young people get the chance to takeover a job of someone in a senior position in business, government or the charity sector. Reema Begum, 15, took over the job of Fiona Wyton, Director of Headliners, for the day. Here’s her story.
Just imagine running an organisation at the age of 15. You’re in control, no fussy adults and definitely no annoying parents, strictly run by YOU! Well I was one of those lucky ones that got to sit in the director’s big seat. Yes with the computer in front of me and the telephone right beside me I really felt like a woman in charge.
I started off by ringing the office door, no answer so I waited. I rang again and there I saw the lady that I was happy to replace, Fiona Wyton the woman who makes the decisions, “THE DIRECTOR”.We decided to go and get a cup of coffee well being the child I am I chose a hot chocolate. Fiona explained to me what she does and what was her job. So amazed that I really wanted to start and get on with the tasks she assigned me with. Can you believe it she’s in charge of everything? She must be superwoman to do that. But she doesn’t actually physically do all the different tasks; she assigned line managers for that. So we carried on, she told me how we needed to come up with ways of attracting funders and how we can fundraise. So I put my thinking caps on and managed to give her loads of ideas. Damn I gave out so many ideas that the meeting was so exciting. We then had lunch, a delicious Chicken Biriyani.
She then told me about the government department for culture, media and sport. It was a great opportunity to put Headliners in the limelight and be a part of that. That could be a way to get some funding. Well hopefully! I typed up the email for the Secretary of State explaining everything about Headliners and what young people do. So keep your fingers crossed. My busy schedule was not over then; Fiona had arranged a meeting with the Chairman of the Trustees, Irene . That was just an amazing experience. All of my ideas seem to make sense and be heard. We came up with solutions and ideas for funding and new projects that I can’t wait to get started with.
Well that’s where my busy day finished, here I am typing up my experience and what hell of a one it was. This is one experience I won’t forget. I enjoyed the dressing up and eating lunch but most of all I enjoyed being in CHARGE!
