Bollywood in Belfast

A group of secondary school students reopen Belfast City Hall with their take on Bollywood dance.

A third year dance class at St. Louise’s Specialist Comprehensive College met with Bollywood dancers from Artsekta to devise and perform their own celebratory dance at the Diwali & Samhain Festival of Light in the newly-opened Belfast City Hall.

Bollywood DancersThe cultural festival explored the themes of light, brightness, rebirth and renewal - each common to both Irish and Indian traditions and evident in traditional Hindu and Celtic myths and legends.

After hours of strenuous school rehearsals the girls took to the stage with grace and ease, performing their dance to Jai Ho by A.R. Rahman, famously used as the musical soundtrack to film, Slumdog Millionaire.

Headliners reporters covered the lead-up to the event, interviewing young people involved and the Lord Mayor of Belfast to find out what they thought of the whole experience and why events like these are important.
