Tricia Bullen aka Miss Mash, has recently been involved with food catering for some of the UK’s popular music festivals including BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Electric Picnic in Ireland and Beach Break Live. Miss Mash feels that people are attracted to going to music festivals to “completely let go and be a big kids for an entire weekend!”
Miss Mash has kindly given up her time to be interviewed by RANT in order to provide some essential information you will need to survive this year’s music festivals!
1)What is the safest and cheapest way to buy tickets for a music festival?
“Buy them from the festival website or use the link on the website – that’s it. As far as the cheapest way goes, they sometimes have early “bird tickets” if you book really early. But sometimes that’s before Christmas. Or you could volunteer at a festival. I used to work for Water Aid at festivals or you could work on one of the food stalls.”
2)What are the dangers people should be aware about at music festivals?
“I suppose one danger would be getting things stolen from your tent or your bag which you should be careful of. Have a padlock for your tent then you should be ok. The biggest danger I think is getting too drunk and losing your tent because you can’t find your way back to it. But there are lots of welfare tents around, so many of the dangers are minimal.”
3)What should people do to ensure their personal safety?
“They should do what they always do – don’t get out of control on drink and drugs to the point where you are ridiculously vulnerable. Keep your phone charged up. Hang out with your friends. Put a big flag on your tent so you can find it easily. Carry little money. And make sure you know where the welfare tents are or arrange a meeting point for your friends.”
