The ID: LDN project consists of four films by young people in London on the subject of what they feel about their culture.
The first film was about a young boy who wasn’t sure whether or not he was Kurdish or Turkish. He goes on this adventure trip in his dreams and experiences what his name means and how his family celebrates their culture, this is demonstrated by an instrument called the Saz. We think that this film was really good for young people because it helps them to understand what their ancestors made of their religion, race and culture.
The Dare was more explaining how many people are different and we should all respect each other and should never put anyone down because of their race, religion or gender, It all started off with three young people who were spinning the bottle, the bottle landed on this girl who was then told she has to go out with this scruffy boy who normally sleeps on the bench. After a while she got to understand the boy more and showed affection towards him.This shows that we are all equal and deserve to be treated fairly. Everyone is from a different background to us and we should understand that people are not always going to dress like us; therefore respect is important in this case.
The next film we watched was; ‘The Power of Black Hair.’ This gave us a historical idea of how African people designed their hair to identify what tribe they came from. They also believed that the design of their hair brought them closer to God. This was important and interesting to watch because a lot of people changed their hair because of the texture and to have the same hair as white people. In our opinion we thought it was good and gave us a great understanding of why we should appreciate our hair no matter what race or religion.
“The Best Football Team in the World” brought a great understanding of how music defines our religion and culture. They showed this by using a football theme. In some part of the story it shows that without music, the football team The Music Blazers could not operate properly. Without us knowing we actually need music to represent our different religions and cultures. We should appreciate that we are different and unique in different ways including the music we listen to.
In our opinion this was a great series of films that shows our different cultures are all part of a diverse society.
