Growing Mad

Young people produce peer media kit to help deal with teenage life.

Bullying - Don't Stand For It

Young people from North Coast Integrated College have teamed up with Headliners to produce an anti-bullying film.

The film explores different forms of bullying, gives practical advice about what you can do if you are being victimised, examining three main areas of abuse. These include physical, emotional and cyber-bullying.

As well as learning how to use recording equipment and working on their self esteem, the young people were challenged to look at their own behaviour and that of their friends and peers.

Battling Boredom

A second group from the school have created a radio programme drawing attention to the lack of facilities for young people in Coleraine.

In the mock radio news bulletin, the pupils report on the threat of violence that comes every summer in the area because there is little else for the young people to engage in.

The participants also reflect on sectarian tensions in Coleraine and warn of lives being lost through fighting and riots.

Young people also examine their own thoughts on culture and sectarianism and what it’s like growing up in the North West.

Teenage Survival Guide

Eight girls from Coleraine have drawn on their life experiences to make a film about coping with the pressures of growing up.

Following group-work sessions, Headliners helped the young women gather their advice and learning points to make a peer-education resource.

The idea behind the project was for the girls to reflect on their own life learning and for each of the girls to pass on one piece of advice to other young people.

The film was also a chance for the participants to celebrate their own identity and culture and each girl was invited to showcase her interests and talents.
