Class of 2009

Headliners would like to congratulate a recent group of graduates from the London Bureau. The following young people have recently turned 20 and are now at various universities up and down the country pursuing different degrees in the humanities. With one young person even going on to be a rising star at The Voice newspaper. We are obviously very proud of all the graduates of 2009.

Pamwan Csemwenhkae

Headliners Graduate PamwanPamwan joined Headliners in 2007. Since then he has produced stories on; free bus travel for young people, the young parliamentary candidate Emily Benn, a radio feature on the 1948 Olympics for BBC London and an article about student gap years for The Guardian. He has also volunteered as a Peer Trainer training other young people in journalism and completed an Open College Network accredited Reporting Course.

Orrel Lawrence

Headliners Graduate OrrelOrrel joined Headliners in 2007. Since then he has produced stories on; the young parliamentary candidate Emily Benn, unemployment amongst young people, youth mentoring in the U.K. and taken part in various podcasts and workshops at Headliners. He has also volunteered as a Peer Trainer training other young people in journalism at a Primary School in Finchley, North London. In addition to this, Orrel has completed an Open College Network accredited Reporting Course.

Patricia Okello

Headliners Graduate PatriciaPatricia joined Headliners in 2006. She worked on a feature on young people from east London who had travelled to the Middle East in an effort to break stereotypes. This was a lead story on the Headliners website. Patricia has also been involved in recruiting staff for Headliners partners 11 Million.

Samir Pasha

Headliners Graduate SamirSamir has reported on issues like the rights of young people, the war in Iraq, the recruitment of the Children’s Commissioner for England, image and identity and much more. He has also been active on helping to develop the organisation as a Peer Trainer - inducting tons of new members, helping us to build the accredited Peer Training programme, as well as being an active member of the Members Advisory Board (set up in 2005 to involve young people in strategic decision making).

Nina Osei-Armah

Nina started Headliners about three and a half years ago. Her most notable journalism work were the stories she wrote on young people and peace and the MTV generation after attending the International Youth Peace forum in Egypt in 2007. Nina was also an active Peer Trainer inducting young people to the London Bureau of Headliners as well as training at external conferences and events. In addition to this, Nina has worked with the youth advisory board for PLAN who Headliners trained and supported to create an interactive resource DVD for use with young people around the world.

Mojda Hashemyan

Headliners Graduate MojdaMojda has been involved in a range of peer training and journalism activities in her time at Headliners. She went on a residential course for Peer Trainers in 2007. Her journalism experience has included; a story about religion amongst young people and a TV package for Sky News. She has also attained Open College Network accreditation in both Reporting and Peer Training.

Ella Parry-Davies

Ella was a committed member of Headliners for many years. So much so that she was rewarded with the opportunity to go to Kenya and report on young people with HIV. The report she produced was subsequently broadcast on Sky News, BBC News 24 and London Tonight. Ella has also been a Peer Trainer and an active participant in the Members Advisory Board (set up in 2005 to involve young people in strategic decision making).

Akilah Russell

Though only with Headliners for a short while, Akilah was a reporter for Hackney Today newspaper producing a review of a guide to youth services in Hackney. Akilah has since gone on to writing front page articles for the The Voice newspaper, being documented for the Channel 4 series Year Dot and working on the popular youth music publication; RWD.
