A Big Day Out

On a hot Bank Holiday Monday in May reporters take a trip out of London to Chessington World of Adventures as a reward for their commitment and hard work this year. Yohana and Bana Tesfamichael, 12, Sarra Said-Wardell, 12 and Amon Haileab, 11, report back from their big day out.

Young People looking at mapIt is a bright, sunny bank holiday Monday and we, like so many other people, are standing in a line. Queuing is probably one of the first things that springs to mind when you mention the words ‘Theme’ and ‘Park’, particularly when the words ‘Bank Holiday’ and ‘Summers Day’ follow.

The first ride we went on was Vampire it was scary at first but when you go on it more than once it doesn’t become scary any more – and we went on it four times altogether. After the first time and a 45-minute wait we bought an Express Pass which meant that we could use the express queues for the 6 top rides so we did not have to queue as long as other people. Vampire was one of our favourites because it always went side-to-side by tilting.

We asked some other young people if they were having fun and a 14-year old girl said “I came here when I was younger but the rides have changed and are now more exciting.”

Waiting for Dodgems

Next we went to Beano land and Dennis’s Madhouse where we got hit about ten times from balls being fired out of huge canons but it didn’t hurt because they were sponge balls. Then we went on Rodger the Dodger’s Dodgems which were so good because we were crashing all the time.

Next we went on a scary ride, the scariest ride there is – Dragon’s Fury. It was so much fun but really, really scary. Dragon’s Fury consisted of a speedy ascent to what seemed like the top of a small skyscraper, before an unexpected and furious drop, which then reverted back to travelling in a welcome straight line. This pattern of leading you into a state of false security and then letting you fall, twist and turn continued until suddenly the cart careered upwards and you are faced with a massive loop. As we moved to the tip of the loop the cart curved sideways and we ended up hurtling back down towards the ground on our side. Then just as suddenly as it began, the ride was over and we were forced to leave our seats. A pretty good ride you might say – it’s got the loops, turns and sheer drops, but imagine all this whilst spinning constantly around and around! This is a ride that, although seems too short, definitely leaves you wanting more.

Two 10-year old girls we spoke to told us Dragon’s Fury was their favourite too. And they scored it 10 out of 10. They said, “We’ve been to Chessington World of Adventures before but we’ve come back because it has the best rides.”

Dragons Falls

After Dragon’s Fury we went on a wet ride called Dragon’s Falls, where you go up the slope and WHOOSH straight down into water. Some of us didn’t get wet even though we were at the front and we wanted to.

At first some of us thought Chessington was going to be boring but then we saw all the scary rides and we really wanted to go on them. We also thought the weather might be too hot but we got over it because of the breeze on the roller coasters and getting wet on Dragon Falls and Billy’s Whizzer.

We hope to go to Chessington again because we LOVED it. And the other young people we interviewed agreed, they said it was “great”, “awesome,” “fun” and “scary.”

We would give Chessington a unanimous 10 /10. It was wonderful and the best theme park some of us had ever been to.
