One Word Many Prejudices

Rachel Magennis, 15, shows how first impressions can be a source of prejudice.

For my film, I wanted to show how everyone can prejudge, the people in the film, and the viewers watching it. It involved a lot of preparation, hard work but was also a good laugh.

I used pictures as examples of typical stereotypes and showed them to four young people in different shots. They had to say honestly and immediately the idea that came into their minds about the persons in each picture, with just one word. Afterwards they felt bad about what they had said as some comments were harsh.

But the importance of this film was showing how quickly we (the audience) can judge and I came to a conclusion that sometimes we forget that we can prejudge others too without realising. I am pleased and proud of my film as it took a lot of effort and I had fun making something that people can watch and identify with.
