Interview with Laura Gould: Coram Creche Worker

Helen Bekele spoke to Laura Gould, Crèche Worker at Coram Parents Centre.

Creche worker Laura with HelenWhen did you start working with babies and children?

I started working with children about 11or 12 years ago. I started working at Coram nearly 4 years ago.

Who do you work with now?

I work with babies, children, parents and carers who come to Coram. Also, the Coram staff team, sessional workers, Sure Start team, some volunteers and students.

What do you do with the children?

We help them to feel safe and interests and providing interesting play opportunities.

How did you start working with children?

I needed a job when I came back from travelling and found work in a nursery. It was a support worker job (i.e. low play), but gradually I got better paid work.

What are your favourite things about your work?

Sharing, exciting progress children have made in crèches – watching children play and learn happily, especially those who found being in the crèche difficult at first.

What don’t like to do in your work?

I don’t like to have to tell staff if they are working with children in ways which are not helpful to them but mainly, I don’t like to have to keep cleaning and tidying up!

Thank You!
