Things have died down now on the Kate Moss front since the whole cocaine scandal. But does this mean that we’ve forgotten and forgiven her?
You would have expected the drugs scandal to ruin Kate Moss’ modelling career, but even after she was pictured allegedly snorting cocaine, sources claim that she’ll still earn up to £12million this year. In fact Kate’s career is better than ever.
It’s common fact that for most models work tends to dry up after hitting the big 3-0, but she made a whopping £2.6million last year for posing, walking and erm… posing and more walking and she was already 31. And although the model lost several hi-profile contracts after the scandal hit the newsstands, such as her £5million-a-year Burberry deal, and contracts with H&M and Chanel, Kate’s fall from grace landed with a very soft bump.
She’s since filmed a TV advert for Virgin Mobile and Rimmel, featured on US and French magazine covers, reportedly signed a £1.5million contract with Calvin Klein, been named Glamour’s best dressed and will star in Stella McCartney and Roberto Cavalli campaigns. And to round it all off you can read all about her “exciting” life in her new autobiography out soon.
It seems a bit of drug controversy does no harm to your pay packet especially when you add into the chaos your ex, Pete Doherty, winner of NME’s award for Most Sexiest Male. But in my opinion NME must have been wearing Stevie Wonder’s glasses when they said this.
Fashion insiders regularly claim that drugs are widely used in the modelling world but it seems everyone is ignoring the real issue. Brands seem to be cashing in on Kate’s recent publicity at the expense of corporate responsibility. And most of those who did have the conviction to drop her quickly scooped her back up again, like Burberry who currently claim that they never dropped her. Dropped or not, Kate still remains the icon of chic and edginess. You can’t pick up a magazine without seeing another feature on how to get the Kate-look.
Kate is a successful supermodel but she certainly isn’t a role model. But even I have to admit she’s got the look. So it seems Kate can do no wrong. After flying back to the UK from LA she received no charges and her former boyfriend Pete Doherty avoided jail. Darling little Angel Kate it seems your sins are long forgotten.
We’re regularly reminded that to do financially well in life, you need to rely on your brain and not your booty. But hang on… can you think of any three six-figure earning females who aren’t models? The plain fact is she’s one of the world’s highest paid supermodels and mother to a two-year-old child even though she went to rehab to get off her drug addiction. In 2002, a children’s party hosted by her pal Sadie Frost ended with her daughter being hospitalised after swallowing part of an ecstasy tablet. This is the reality of drug taking. And that’s not pretty.
