Over the last week or so football fans worldwide have been glued to their screens watching the footage of the World Cup. Images that are sent around our little planet at the speed of light. But how does this impact the world of sport?
Some may say that sport is all the better for its global publicity. Many will argue that it has helped to spread and increase the popularity of sports like tennis, athletics and even dodge ball. It has also sparked the invention of new sports such as the combination of American football and basketball known as “slam ball”
Today’s sporting world is a long way off the world of years gone by,
Years ago if a person wanted to watch sport they would have to go their local park or football stadium to watch their local team. It wasn’t as simple as turning on the TV and watching Barcelona or River Plate - we couldn’t watch golf live from the USA or hockey from America.
Most people enjoy the ease with which sport can be accessed, however there are those who are opposed to sport. They say that players are paid too much; others say it has ruined sport, and that the money brought in by television coverage has corrupted the world of sport.
In my opinion sport is better because of its television coverage. More people can enjoy sport freely and from the comfort of their own home. It saves people from paying astronomical prices to travel and gain admission into certain sporting events.
It may have its negative impacts and people may disagree with what I'm saying but as far as I’m concerned it has been extremely beneficial to sports.
