Big Brother mania has arrived again and the craze is as big as ever. Many would say that this year’s contestants are far from average.
However, this may be due to the fact that all of them are, or seem to be, acting the part in order to prove themselves unique and deserving of the prize. It’s just a shame that all contestants opted for the same tactic of coming across as a total nutter!
Producers promised the seventh series of Big Brother, which will run for 13 weeks, finishing in mid-August, would be "more twisted than ever", and you could argue they haven’t disappointed.
However what is all the more insane is that all over the country parents are sitting down to watch it with their children, who wouldn’t even fully understand half the vulgar content of the show.
It’s absurd that young people at the ages of 12 and 13 are being subjected to such adult material as the result of the Big Brother obsession and the positive mass media coverage it receives daily.
The irony of the show is that viewers sit in the house religiously to watch people sitting in a house. Not that the show doesn’t have good entertainment value, but personally I don’t see the point of staying awake to watch people sleeping in the BB house.
Look at it this way - should people from all over the world tune in and have a look at the UK Big Brother craze, are these the people we want to represent us globally?
Let’s face it if someone from another country tuned in to get an insight into people they would probably decide not to visit. Not only this, but if there was life on other planets I can only imagine what their reaction would be - "No thanks. Move along, nothing to see here"!
