The Mayor was speaking at a Question Time in conjunction with the Institute of Citizenship on 8 March at City Hall. He told students from 20 different schools across London: “We are establishing an Education Commission to look at all aspects of education in London – we want the views of school students to feed into that.”
He said: “We haven’t invested as much in education as we should have. I believe the government should be prepared to tax more in order to invest more in state schools.”
However there was a mixed response among students who attended. Jaime Pleab, 16, said: “I didn’t learn anything.” But Keiran Thoms, 14, disagreed. He said: “I thought it might be quite boring but there were interesting views raised. And there were a lot of new points I hadn’t thought of.”
