When Girl Talk sent two journalists, Ashleigh and Aphra from Children's Express to interview top pop group Liberty X, we didn't know they'd have such a great time! Get the goss on what Liberty X really think about stardom!
| Nothing beats performing in front of a live audience and being able to do what I’ve always dreamed of. |
What was it like auditioning in front of so many people for Popstars?
Kelli: It was really scary. But it was definitely worth it.
Tony: I thought it was horrible. I had to get up in front of 400 people, the judges and the camera. But we had to get used to it and now I love singing to loads of people. At one of our gigs there were 30,000 people.
What's the best thing about being a pop star?
Michelle: For me, nothing beats performing in front of a live audience and being able to do what I've always dreamed of.
Kevin: Hearing our song on the radio is a really cool thing.
Jessica: I love all the glamorous stuff like going to film premieres.
Is it difficult coping with the pressures of being famous?
Jessica: It's actually really nice having a little bit of fame.
Kevin: Yeah, we're not really that famous! At the beginning it was weird to think people knew who you were, but it's great when people ask for our autographs. It's good fun.
Liberty X cheer themselves up with movies, ice cream, and a good cry! | |

How do you cheer yourselves up when things get tough?
Tony: I go to the cinema. If I get really annoyed I just go and watch a film and come out in a wee bit of a daze!
Kelli: When things get really tough I have a good moan with the band, buy some ice cream and veg out in front of a nice romantic comedy on TV.
Michelle: I ring my mum or my best friend and have a good cry!
Who's the joker in the band?
Kelli: It alternates between the boys. When Tony gets tired he starts to do strange Michael Jackson dances in the street!
Tony: I can be funny for about half an hour… and then I'm not funny for about two weeks!
Have you got any un-popstar-like habits?
Kelli: I like eating pasta with gravy
Jessica: Yuck! I'm just really messy
Michelle: Whereas I'm always tidying up in the middle of the night.
Kevin: I bite my nails a lot
Tony: And my feet are really smelly. I wash them twice a day but they still whiff.
| | What the girls said | | "It was really fun watching Louise, the make-up artist, get Jessica ready for the shoot," says Aphra. "She had so many brushes and powders and lip glosses, but Jessica still looked really natural at the end of it all." | | "We were so excited about the interview," says Ashleigh. "I was quite scared at the beginning!, admits Aphra. "But they were all really open." | | "They didn't seem used to the microphone, though," adds Ashleigh. | | "Liberty X looked really glam in the photos, especially under the lighting," smiles Aphra. "All in all it was a great day. The group were so easy to talk to - it's one of the best interviews I've ever done!" | | "Same goes for me," agrees Ashleigh. "They were very kind people, really fun and lively. I learned a lot, too!" | |
|
Do you make any difficult changing room requests before a concert?
Michelle: I always demand that the room has a pink floor and is full of white roses! No, only joking! We never really ask for anything - just mineral water.
Kevin: We're quite easy going, although it's nice to have a towel because we're often quite sweaty when we come off stage.
What's the funniest thing a fan's ever sent you?
Michelle: One girl sent us a letter with half a song she'd written for us! It was good but made us laugh a lot too!
Tony: The best thing I ever got was a devil teddy bear - that's our little mascot.
What's the most glamorous thing you've done?
Jessica: When we were flying back from Singapore they let us travel first class. We were so excited! We all wore pyjamas and watched loads of films on our little TVs!
Tony: I loved the premiere of Lord of the Rings. A car came to collect us and we met loads of celebrities.
Are you here to stay?
Tony: If people like our music we'll be around for quite a while.
Jessica: We'll stay for as long as people want us!
