Where can teenagers get advice on education, careers, health and leisure in a fun and funky atmosphere? Children's Express reports on the Connexions Centre in London.

It was probably the underground beats blasting from the decks or maybe the trendy crowd moving to the rhythm that made me think I'd walked into an under 18's club when I attended the launch of the new Connexions Centre in Islington last week.
Whatever it was, the lively and youthful atmosphere was nothing like I'd expected.
Connexions is a new service for young people aged 13 to 19 which aims to provide information, advice and guidance on things like education, careers, health and leisure.
And although I'd heard of their careers scheme before, I didn't think I'd see so many young people digging in.
Downstairs in the main area there were lots of different things going on including DJ-ing, filming and even video viewing. I really fancied a go on the decks but was worried about making a fool of myself in front of so many people so signed myself up for the video workshop.
The workshop was hands on, with all of us getting a turn to use the camera and do some presenting. The tutor told us he was a film producer, which seemed to impress the group.
Later on, I popped upstairs to check out the Careers Fair. To be honest I found it a bit dry and if I were looking for a job, I'd want something a bit more upbeat. It felt a bit like some of the organisations were desperate for me to take their leaflets.
For me, the most impressive part of the new Connexions Centre by far was the media suite - several rooms filled with the latest and best hi-tech equipment any teenager could ask for. I will definitely be signing up for their upcoming workshops in radio, graphic design, animation and film. What's also good is that they've got a health centre where young people will be able to get advice and information from a nurse.
Somehow I don't think Connexions will have much trouble attracting young people in Islington. It's got loads to offer and despite being based in an old school building the new Connexions Centre on White Lion Street is well good.
