Junior Jury: young and in love

How do you tell someone you've got a crush on them? Children's Express reporters get the low-down on love in the 21st century.

To be young and in love. Children's Express reporters find out what it's like.

I asked me dad how to get a girlfriend and then I followed his instructions and now I have one.

Jade Henderson, 15, Kenton

I do have a crush on someone - actually there are a few people that I fancy. I do tell people when I like them. I like people that are older than me because they are more mature. I would have the guts to tell someone that I have a crush on them. I would ring them or text them to let them know but I don't think I would tell them to their faces. All my friends tell me who they have a crush on.

Lindsey Marchant, 18, Cowgate

I have a crush on The Rock from the wrestling. If I fancied someone I would not tell them because if they like me they can do all the running around. It's as simple as that. My mother speaks to me about the opposite sex because she wants to know everything about my love life.

Lee Lawler, 11, Blakelaw

I am not really bothered about fancying someone older or younger than me, as long as they are nice looking. I have sent someone a text message before to let them know that I fancy them. My friends do tell me who they like, but only my closest friends. The longest I have had a crush has been two years. It's hard to describe how you feel. I have had girls ask me out. One girl sent her brother to ask me out and he said: 'Would you start seeing my sister?' I said yes and we went out for two months. My parents don't talk to me about the opposite sex.

Liam Caine, 9, Cowgate

I have a crush on a girl because she's nice looking and has a good

personality. I would tell someone that I fancy by text message because it would be easier instead of embarrassing yourself. I prefer people older than me because when you go out with someone younger they could grow to be someone that you did not want them to be. I think it's kind of cool having a girlfriend because if you are bored you can go around to see her and have fun. Someone has asked me out by sending me a text. I have had a

crush on someone for around three years. I only told her a few weeks ago. I asked me dad how to get a girlfriend and then I followed his instructions and now I have one.

Leanne Park, 14, Cramlington

I like people I fancy to be older because they know how to treat you

properly and they have more experience. I would start by flirting with

someone before I tell them to their face. My parents do speak about the opposite sex, but only when I am seeing my lad and then my dad gets over protective.

Stephen Strain, 9, Cowgate

I have a crush on someone because they look nice and smile at me a lot. I tell me mam when I fancy someone and she said it's good to have a girlfriend. I tell people I fancy them by whispering in their ear. I like to go out with people who like the same things as me like art. Someone asked me out by saying: 'Will you start seeing us'? It made me feel good. The longest I have had a crush on someone is for four years. I would tell someone if I fancied them but I would be embarressed some of the time. My parents have spoken to me about girls. They told me about kissing and that.

Ashley Wardle, 13, Cowgate

I usually tell my friend when I fancy someone. I think its good when

someone you have fancied for ages asks you out. I have had a crush on someone for a year; it makes you feel good sometimes. A lot of my friends tell me when they fancy someone. My parents told me all sorts about the opposite sex like how to make sure you are safe.
