This week Children's Express talk to young people about the year 2001 and their thoughts on the year to come.
| If I could change something in the world next year it would be to stop all the bother with Bin Laden. |
Emma Cant, 16, Ferryhill
My New Year's resolution last year was to be a good citizen and help the community. I have been involved in an organisation called Investing in Children, which helps young people have a say when decisions are made that affect them. The highlight of my year was receiving the Princess Diana of Wales Memorial Award for outstanding commitment to the community. I haven't really thought about making a resolution for next year.
Philip Lockyer, 18, Cowgate
I didn't make any New Year's resolutions last year. I can't even remember last New Year. A lot has happened since then. I got my first proper job as a youth researcher. I see it as a stepping stone to doing something I enjoy. I think I've changed a lot too. I look at things differently and I feel more mature.
My resolution for the coming year is to get a permanent job similar to the kind of job I have now, which ends in March. I'd probably like to move off Cowgate too. I need to go somewhere different and meet new people.
Michael Holland, 11, Blakelaw
I didn't make a New Year's resolution for 2001 but I'm making one this year. My biggest success of last year was getting a good school report which I was given a hamster for. I was proud of myself. The worst thing of the year was my great grandmother dying. She was 83. My resolution for next year is not to hit my brother.
Samantha Stephenson, aged 12, Fenham
I didn't make any New Year resolutions for last year but this year I have promised to go out with my mates a lot more. One of the best things to happen last year was enjoying being in Children's Express because I made loads of friends. Nothing really bad happened to me last year. In the New Year I will be looking forward to making even more friends also I am looking forward to going on holidays to Spain.
Laura Aiston, 10, Gateshead
My resolutions for last year were to keep up with my schoolwork and not to fight anymore. I think this year I will try to tidy my room. Last year I was on Children in need and Newsround talking about my dad going to prison which was the worst thing to happen to me.
Gareth Aiston, aged 14, Gateshead
The Last New Years resolution was to do all my homework and I did manage to keep it up. This year I have promised myself that I will walk the dog more and try harder at school. I think I will be able to stick to them, hopefully.
Emma Dickman, aged 11, Cowgate
I don't remember making any New Year resolutions for last year but I will definitely be making some this year. I have made them in the past but never managed to stick to them because I think it's very hard to do. One of the best things about last year was with it being the Millennium. It was also the first year I had a party.
Christie Newby, aged 11, Cowgate
In the past I made a New Years resolution to stop biting my nails but didn't manage to do it. I would try again this year but I don't think I could manage it because if there is something good on television I just bite them. I think resolutions are very hard to stick to.
Last year was great because I went to the Westlife concert and the Smash Hits one as well. Next year I will be going to see Westlife in concert again so I will be busy. There was one thing that I didn't like about last year and that was that I broke my collarbone. If I could change something in the world next year it would be to stop all the bother with Bin Laden.
