In developing countries 600 million children live in absolute poverty, on less than 60p a day - that's the price of two Mars bars. Young people tell Children's Express what they think.
Liam Caine, 9, Cowgate
I think that poverty is really bad because poor people don't have any money. I see it on the news every day. It happens in places like Afghanistan and South America because they haven't got any clothes to wear or anything to keep them warm and alive. If one of my friends were poor I would give them about twenty pounds. It's not funny if you don't have any clothes or shoes, because people make fun and call names.

Being poor is the way some people live when they can't afford to pay for anything and don't have enough to eat. They don't have enough to afford to buy the basics. When you see people on the streets you feel very sorry for them and when they ask you for some money you can't always give it to them, because you don't have enough money yourself.
If a friend were poor, I would try and help them as much as I could and try not to make it obvious that they were poor. It's not always your fault that you cannot afford things. When I see poor people on the television I feel really sorry for them walking about bare-footed when they can't afford to eat. I think they really need it. Some adults care, but some of them are cold hearted towards people like that.
Donna Cousins, 18, Byker
Everyone sees poverty in a different way. You get called poor if you can't afford designer clothes or couldn't go out with friends to the pictures because you haven't enough money. It exists in the U.K and it's happening all around us in every country and in every town. It doesn't mean if you can't see it its not happening.
I don't think about it because you can't worry about other people all the time. I am not a rich person or anything, but I would help out a friend by giving them food, clothes and even somewhere to stay. Millions of people are dying, its heart breaking.
Amy Jones, nine, Kenton
I care about poverty in the world. I hear about it on the television. I think that adverts about poverty are horrible and people shouldn't have to live like that. It makes me feel sad that there are poor people in the UK. If any of my friends were poor I would help by giving them a home.
Kirsten Caine, 12, Cowgate
It's about people in third world countries that have no food or money and they end up dying with suffering. When you see all the empty houses and people on the streets with no homes, it's sad. I would like to help them as much as I can, maybe by giving them some food. I try not to think about it.
Tania Coltouhoun, 12, Kenton
Poverty is bad, but I don't think it exists in the UK. There are adverts on the television about third world countries, which is good because it makes people think and want to help. I think they really need it. I would give friends of mine money if they were poor because it's not fair if they got picked on.
Cheryl Paxton, 11, Cowgate
Some adults care about world poverty and others don't. If a friend of mine were poor, I would help them get more money and stuff. It's sad when someone is picked on because of the clothes they wear. I think poverty is all over the UK
Michael Holland, 11, Blakelaw
When people are asking for money that's poverty. It's when children are poor in different countries and don't have much. They should have the right to the same amount of money because it's not fair fon other children to not have the same clothes as others. I care about poverty in the world and I don't think its fair for people to pick on others because they have not got the right amount of money to get clothes. People should be fairer to others and give charity.
