Do bus journeys to school cost too much? Children's Express asks young people how they feel.
| The good thing about the bus is that you get to meet other people. The bad thing is you don’t get to school on time. |
Michael Holland, 11, St Cuthbert’s School
I go to school by bus. It costs me 25p but I think it's a fair price. I have had to pay more though when the bus driver asked for 45p because I didn't have a bus pass. I like going to school on the bus because it doesn't take long, only five to 10 minutes and it saves me from walking. I feel safe when travelling on the bus because my friends are around me so I know that nothing is going to happen. My mam spends around £2.50 a week on travel for me.
Robert Waites, 15, Fairfield Community School
If I have my pass it costs me 25p to travel to school on the bus. I think it's a fair price but the cost if you don't have your pass is double. I always have problems with the travel service as its nearly always late and it normally takes me about two hours to get to school. Travelling to school by bus is faster than walking and I think that some of the drivers are very friendly. I feel safe travelling because there are a lot of people on the bus although it is always late.
Chantelle Wilkinson, 12, Firfield Community School
I pay 25p on the buses and I think it's a fair price. I have had problems with travelling on the buses though. Sometimes I've been asked to pay 45p even with my bus pass. It takes me about me five minutes to get to school. I like travelling by bus to school because it's good watching out of the windows. I spend about £1.25 on the bus a week. I feel safe travelling by bus.
Leanne Smith, 12
I go to school by bus and pay 25p which I think is a fair price. I have had problems with the bus though because it's often late. I don't like going by bus: I'd rather walk. My mum sometimes finds it difficult to make sure I've got my bus fare if she's run out of money. I spend about £2.5op a week on bus fares. I feel safe travelling by bus because the bus driver is only downstairs - that's one of the good things about it. I do worry in case it tips over though.
Linzi Youll, 12
I get the 38 bus to school in the morning. It takes about half an hour. I pay 25p but I don't think it is a fair price. I have had problems with the buses. One time it never came. I don't really like travelling by bus because there's too many stops. I don't feel safe travelling by bus either. The good thing about the bus is that you get to meet other people. The bad thing is you don't get to school on time.
Carrieanne Robson, 12
I get the bus to school each morning. It costs me 25p because I've got my pass. It's an alright price I think. I've had problems when I've forgotten my bus pass. It takes about ten minutes to get to school by bus and half an hour if I walk. It's all right going by bus because you get there quicker and I feel safe on the bus too. The bad thing about the bus is that it could break down.
Stacey Trevillion, 12
I go to school by bus and I pay 45p a trip, which I don't think is a fair price. I've had problems with the bus too: it's made me late for school. It usually takes me about ten minutes on the bus. Sometimes my mum doesn't have enough money for the bus. The good thing about the bus is that it gets you there quicker. The bad thing is that sometimes it can make you late.
Emma Jackson, 12
I travel by bus and pay 45p. I don't think it's a fair price: one time I used to pay 15p. I have had problems with going by bus. One time it was late and then went the wrong way when I got on it. It usually takes five to 10 minutes to get to school in the morning. I generally feel safe.
