Junior Jury: one year on

Young people tell Children's Express reporters how they think life has changed in the twelve months since terrorists brought down the World Trade Centre.

A year on from September 11 Children's Express reporters ask young people how the event has impacted on their lives.

I was terrified when I last flew thinking that we might get highjacked or fly into a building.

Shona Lee, 12, Newcastle

I do have fears after what happened on September 11th. I'm just frightened in case of war or something over here. I can remember everything that happened last year. The towers falling down made me feel frightened but I'm all right now. I think there will be a war in America because of the way that they are going on about all the other countries that are fighting all the time. All the countries hate each other. I have flown since last year and I felt all right.

Jade Henderson, 15, Kenton

I suppose I would be scared of flying again because of last year and

thinking what if my plane got highjacked or something. I can remember seeing on the news people jumping out the sides of buildings. The thing that I can remember the most is the top spike of the building going into all the smoke.

When it first happened, initially I didn't think it was that big but then I realised just what it meant. I think Osama bin Laden should be punished. I don't know if there will be a war, I just hope there isn't but there might be. I don't think anything has really changed since last year and I haven't flown yet either.

Andrew Bates, 15, Wallsend

The fear I have is about what's going to happen next, like is the war going to come over here. I remember watching what happened last year on the news. It showed the footage of the planes hitting the buildings and interviews with people who had lost others or survived the attack and what was being done to try to sort it out.

I felt sorry for the people that it was happening to and I felt angry towards those doing it. I also felt very confused as well because I didn't know why it was happening. The families must still be grieving and that makes me feel really bad. I don't think a lot has changed since last year just that more people are aware of what's going on in the world. I don't know if there will be a war, it all depends on the people in charge getting it all sorted out. I don't have any fears about going in an airplane now or in the future.

Craig Byers, 15, Battlefield

I don't really have any fears about what happened last year. I remember the two planes crashing into the twin Twin Towers. It kept getting replayed. It made me feel sorry for the Americans. It felt like a big thing that was happening. Nothing has changed since last year although there could be war if anything else happens.

Samantha Newby, 15, Cowgate

I do have some fears that our country might go through the same as America. I remember all the people getting killed and all the programmes about families being destroyed. I don't think anything has changed in Newcastle this year but in America it has. The planes crashing into the big building is what I remember and people jumping out of windows.

It made me feel shocked because it's the Twin Towers and it's an important building. I think with it being Sept 11th very soon something might happen from Bin Laden or from someone else. Some people have said that there might be a war but nothings happened yet so I am not sure. I was terrified when I last flew thinking that we might get highjacked or fly into a building.

Sonia McAthey, 13, Cowgate

I don't have any fear about last year, I just think about the families every now and again. I can remember how many people were killed and the planes crashing, it must be awful for the families. I didn't believe it at first and then it was on the news a lot so it started to sink in. Lots of people made jokes about it and I don't think its fair on the families of those who died. Nothing has changed because we don't know when they will strike again.

I'm not really sure what will happen because I don't think about it as much as I used to. I think that there will be a war now that America has retaliated. It says in the papers today that Tony Blair is ready for war. I don't like The Prime Minister because the war has nothing to do with us anyway it's between America and Afghanistan. I would not fly because of what happened last year.
