What would a life without music be like? Young people say what music means to them.

What would a life without music be like? Children's Express reporters find out what music means to young people.

The meaning of music is just so incredible. My life without it would be a disaster.

Shalaleh, 10, Cowgate

My life would be sad without music because I like it. My favourite kind of music is made by Britney Spears. I like her a lot and would really like to meet her. She is lush. Music means a good beat. My favourite song is Oops! I did it again. I don't know why, I just love it. The words make me feel happy.

Jade Brewer, 9, Montagu Estate

My favourite pop star is Gareth Gates. I would like to meet him because his voice is lovely and he has a cute face. Without music I would probably be sad because I love it. The beat of music is groovy.

Louise Richardson, 11, Montague Estate

A life without music would be boring because music is good and you can sing to it. My favourite is Unchained Melody by Gareth Gates. I would love to meet him. I have never met a famous singer but I have met a famous footballer. The words in the song make me feel sad.

Hayley Todd, 10, Cowgate

I think my life would be a disaster without music because I just like it and could not live without it. My favourite music is joyful. I would like to meet Gareth Gates because he is lovely. I don't know about any meaning in music, it's just lovely. I love Unchained Melody. The words are nice and a little sad sometimes.

Jade Curtis, 10, Blakelaw

Rock's my favourite type of music. If I had the chance to meet my favourite popstar, it would be Will Young. The words to songs make me feel happy and sometimes sad. My life without music would be sad.

Caroline Wilson, 6, Cowgate

My favourite kind of music is rap punk. If I had the chance to meet a popstar I would like to meet Eminem, because I think he looks lovely. It was really good when I saw him on a video. My favourite song is Will the real Slim Shady please stand up? When I hear the song it makes me feel so good.

I went to see S Club 7 in concert. It was really good. The meaning of music is just so incredible. My life without it would be a disaster.

Chelsea Carruthers, 9, Cowgate

I like music and a life without it would be boring. My favourite kind of music is pop because I like Robbie Williams. I would love to meet Brian off Westlife because he is cute. I really like him. I would really like to be Madonna, because I like her music. My favourite song is Uptown Girl by Westlife. I like it because it makes me feel nice.

Tara Glover, 9, Cowgate

I really like rock music, but I am not that fussed on pop, it's not my type. I like the fast songs - it's just the way I am. I would definitely love to meet Marilyn Manson because I like his music and I think that he is quite cool and cute. If I could impersonate someone it would be Marilyn Manson because I really do like him. A life without music would be really boring because you need to dance.

Michael White, 18, Cowgate

Music is a part of everyday life. A life without it would be boring. It chills you out and when you go to a party it gets people happy. My favourite kind of music is what they call 'After dark'. It's the kind of music that people listen to when they are at a rave.

I would like to meet Bob Marley because you can chill out to his music. If I would impersonate a singer it would have to be Robbie Williams, because he is crazy and he is always jumping about. Some music I listen to on the telly is crap, but some can tell a story about people's lives like in the film Titanic. When it was on television, people started to cry when the theme song come on.
