Why did the chicken cross the road? Children's Express reporters find out what makes young people laugh.

My favourite joke is 'Why did the orange stop rolling down the hill?
It ran out of juice!' It makes me laugh because you never really see oranges rolling down hills, do you? What I like about it is that it's just not realistic. My friend told me the joke.

I don't really have a favourite joke, although lots of things make me laugh. There are some jokes that are just not funny and there are others that are racist or just insult people. The people who tell me jokes are my friends, family or workmates. You also seem to hear the sad jokes in the bar when people have had too many drinks.
The best thing about humour is that people can stand on stage and tell jokes for a living. Comedy is important because it is entertaining and it gives people a laugh. I think we all need to laugh.
Gavin Mather, 12, Cowgate
A joke that makes me laugh is 'How many men does it take to change a lightbulb?' The answer is 'None, because she has already done it!' It makes me laugh because it's sexist and it gets people really angry. It's really winding people up that I find funny. My dad told me the joke but he got it off a woman.
Kirsten Caine, 12, Cowgate
I don't really have a favourite joke. I don't really like them. If I am told any jokes it's normally by my family and friends.
Lyndsey Smeaton, 12, Blakelaw
The kind of things that make me laugh are silly jokes. Any jokes. It's usually my friends and teachers and that that tell me jokes. Sometimes you hear sexist jokes. It depends on whether the joke is good for me to tell other people.
Amy Wood, 18, Cowgate
It could be a stupid joke or it could be that someone says something funny in a conversation. It's quite sad, but I find everything funny so a joke is a part of my everyday life. I don't actually tell any jokes, it's just the stupid things that someone might say to me that make me fall over laughing.
I like some of the funny things that you can see on television like the comedy shows where someone might fall over and hurt themselves but they do it on purpose to make you laugh and you end up nearly wetting yourself. I love TV shows with lots of humour.
Claire Davis, 15, Blakelaw
The jokes I like are really sick and sad jokes, so I can't really say any of them because some people may be offended. Every one has different things that make them laugh that may not be funny to anyone else. I like those kinds of jokes. I think they make you laugh more than say a 'knock-knock' joke, which are really sad. But at least sick jokes have more of a meaning to them and are so funny you end up crying.
I hear jokes everywhere - on TV, books or from friends. So sometimes no one tells you, you just pick it up or even make them up. The best thing about humour is not the actual joke, it's the way people react when you tell it. They could be creasing up and that makes it more funny, watching someone else laughing their head off. It feels good inside to make someone feel so happy with what you've just said to him or her it could even make their day.
