Junior Jury: Easter

The Easter holidays give young people a welcome break from school. But how do they spend their free time, and what do they think of Easter eggs?

The Easter holidays provide a welcome break from the school calendar for many young people, and a chance to indulge in lots of chocolate. But what do they think of Easter eggs? And how do they spend their free time?

It would be good to get something different for Easter because you can get bored with eggs.

Samantha Newby, 14, Cowgate

This holiday I have been camping and canoeing and going over Exhibition Park. We didn't have eggs this year because we are going on holidays and got clothes to go away with. The best chocolate for me is Galaxy because it's much nicer than anything. It's terrible that we can eat all this chocolate when there are children starving to death. I like chocolate because I think

it's relaxing when you eat it.

Michael Lear, 11, Blakelaw

I get lots of Easter eggs. I got seven this year and I don't have to share them with any brothers or sisters. I like chocolate because it's sweet, but it makes you put on a lot of weight. I like Cadbury's chocolate the best because it's the nicest. I think you should get something different for Easter, because kids get bored of chocolate. I get new clothes for Easter.

Rebecca Farr, 10, Cowgate

I get loads of eggs for Easter. I got 15 or something this year. I like Easter eggs. I like chocolate. Twirl is my favourite. I feel sorry for children sometimes who don't get eggs at Easter. If I'm angry I don't think about them: when I'm happy, I do.

Christie Newby, 11, Cowgate

I do get Easter eggs but I didn't this year because I was getting loads off other people, so I just had clothes, although I would rather get an egg because it's chocolate. My favourite is Cadburys because it's the best chocolate and it's creamier. I have loads of eggs so I feel sorry for children that don't. It would be good to get other things for Easter just as long as I get one egg.

Amy Wood, 18, Cowgate

Every year without fail I get an Easter egg off my mum. Even though I am older I get them every year. It has to be Cadbury's every time for me because it's milky and creamy and melts in the mouth - in fact I can taste it now. I have my own house with my boyfriend now so we share our eggs. I feel sorry for children that don't have any Easter eggs because chocolate is just so gorgeous and just about everyone eats it. Even when you are feeling sad you eat it, so I do feel sorry for them. We went to the beach this holiday and that's about it.

Julie Francis, 14, Cowgate

I like chocolate because it's yummy. I had loads of eggs from the family because I think it's their way of showing that they care. The richest flavoured egg has to be Galaxy but my favourite was a Malteser one. I feel sorry for those without any eggs because I have lots and they have none. It would be good to get something different for Easter because you can get bored with eggs. This Easter I have been out with my friends and shopping.

Lyndsey Smeaton, 12, Blakelaw

I had seven eggs this year. My favourite was Mars Bar. I do feel sorry for people who cannot afford to celebrate Easter, so why should I if not everyone else can? I like chocolate because it's nice. I I never get sick of it.

Michael Holland,11, Blakelaw

This Easter holiday I have been playing with my friends in the street. I had lots of eggs off my uncles and aunts. I like any types of eggs, but my favourite was the Crunchie one because it had lots of sweets in it. It's not fair for us to be eating chocolate when there are children with nothing. I never get sick of chocolate it's the only time I get loads and loads of it.

Cheryl Paxton, 10, Cowgate

I had loads of eggs from my nan and my aunts. I think I had about seven or eight. It's not fair for children to go without. I had lots of new clothes for Easter holidays. I had pants, a top and a skirt. I love chocolate, but sometimes I don't. It would be good to get something different each year otherwise people would get fat. This holiday I have been playing with my friends, going out to town and that.
