As the BBC's Children in Need Appeal kicks off today, Children's Express reporters ask young people in Newcastle what they will be doing to help and where they think the money will be going.

Children in Need is for people who need money to buy food and get themselves fresh water. It's a good idea because people can die. I don't think the money goes to young people in this country.I raised money by doing a sponsored walk, but I don't know of anyone who has actually had any of the money.
I think they will raise more this year because there are more people thinking about others because they watch the adverts for Children in Need. If I was in charge of the money and could spend it on Cowgate, I would make it tidier and have parks and football fields and build a new sports centre. We need to keep raising money.
Jodie Short, 10, Newbiggin Hall
Children in Need is for young people who don't have any homes and are very poor. It's to help people have a better life. I think the money goes to different countries and people who live on the streets. I have raised a little bit of money because it's a good cause. There is a girl I know of whose mam is deaf and there was some money raised to support them both.
I don't think all celebrities should raise money because they have more important things to do. My mam has already done something to raise money for Children in Need, and if my school doesn't raise any then my local church does something. When the programme Children in Need is on I ring in with money. All I really want to say is that it's a very good way to raise money for poor young people.
Jodie Shiels, 11, Cowgate
I think Children in Need is good for young people who need help. No, I have not given any money but my ma has - she raised money because it's a good cause. I first heard about it when I was about eight because it was on the news. I sometimes watch it when it's on television, but I don;'t know anyone who has been given any money. I think they will raise more money than last year, but I am not sure if I will be doing anything to help.
Natalie Riley, 12, Montagu
I think Children in Need is good because the money goes to charity, so I give them what I can. It's a good cause because there are lots of children who need help, although I don't know any that have had any of the money. They will raise more this year because there will be more people interested and it will help children to have better lives. I watch it when it's on the television, but I don't have any ideas of how to raise money this year.
Leoni Gill, 10, Newbiggin Hall
I think it's really good Children in Need because it helps children with disabilities and those that don't go away on holidays liike we do. I am not sure what I am going to do this year, but I think we are going to raise money at school. All the money we give is given to Children in Need to hand out to those who need it. An idea to raise money would be to put on a show so people could raise more for young people.
Scott McGorie, 12, Cowgate
It's about children who are in need of food and water that won't kill them. I think it's great because it gives young people a chance. The money goes to Oxfam and places like that for clothes, food and lots of other things. I have given money by raising some in my primary school, so it's definitely for a good cause.
A lot of celebrities go on Children in Need to raise money, but there should be more. I actually do think they will get more money than last year. I paid fifty pence to the school for Children in Need and I've put loads of copper coins into a school jar that we have in our form class. The first time I heard about Children in Need was at home and I asked my mam what it was for. I think everybody should go out and do something like bake cookies to sell around houses.
