Junior Jury: brothers and sisters

Growing up with brothers and sisters can lead to fights - but children wouldn't be without them.

Children's express reports on how young people feel about having brothers and sisters.

When my sister was two days old I got to hold her and it made me cry because I was now a big sister.

Cheryl Catherine-Barker, 12, Westerhope

I like having a sister because if you get lonely she cheers me up and I have someone to play with. She gets on my nerves when she keeps coming in my room and destroying my stuff, but she is only young. We play loads of games outside and we sometimes fight.

My best memory of my sister is when she was born. When she was two days old I got to hold her and it made me cry because I was now a big sister. I felt dead emotional. I would be very upset if I didn't have my sister because even though at times she can be quite annoying but I will always love her.

Shona Lee, 12, Newbiggin Hall

I have three sisters and one brother. It's good because you have someone to keep you company. I go shopping with my sisters and I fight about everything with my brother. I wouldn't want anymore brothers and sisters because it's just someone else to fight with although they would look out for me if I were getting bullied.

I like the same things as my sisters like television, reading and make up. We look alike because of our bone structure. I couldn't imagine not having any brothers and sisters; it makes me feel bad.

Rachel Gatt, 10, Newbiggin Hall

I have one brother who is nine years old. Sometimes I get on with him like when he helps me. We have done loads of things together, art things and going to clubs. I don't go everywhere with him because he's got his own friends and I have mine.

My best memory of my brother is when he gets me loads of things for my birthday. I wish I had a little sister so I could play with them and share some of my things with her. I think that we look a little alike because of the hair colour.

Gavin Mather, 13, Cowgate

I have three brothers that I get on with most of the time but it's the same with every family there are always times when you are fighting and falling out. I get on with them later in the day because first thing in the morning you just bite because you are still tired. We don't do a lot of activities together. I wish I had a sister. I don't think we look alike at all.

Laura Race, 11, Newbiggin Hall

I've got one sister who is seven and one brother who is four. I like playing with my younger brother. Sometimes I don't get on with my sister because we share a room and we fight about what books we want to read. I like playing games with them and drawing aeroplanes. We go to the same youth club together. I would like to have another brother. We don't look alike because we all have different hairstyles although we all have the same colour.

Hayley Todd, 10, Cowgate

I like having sisters because we do stuff together like play football and stuck in the mud. There is one year between me and one my sisters and two years between me and the other one. I wish I had more brothers or sisters. We like a lot of the same things like dolphins and going swimming. We look alike but I'm not sure how. I couldn't imagine not having them around.

Naomi Mareghum, 10, Westerhope

I have one brother and one sister. My brother is eight and my sister is three. I get on with my sister because she is always with us and I just do everything with her and my brother because he is my brother. We do fight over things like who gets the bigger plate and the most dinner. We play on the computer together.

I remember our holiday when we all played in the pool together. My worst memories are when we have had fights. We get on but we like different things. I feel quite lucky having a brother and sister because if I was a single child I would feel lonely.

Rebecca Patterson, 10, Cowgate

I have one brother who is six. I like him because sometimes I'm lonely and sometimes I'm not and he will come to talk to me. I don't always get on with him especially when he is upset and I try to cheer him up and he tells me to go away. We do things together like arts and crafts although we sometimes fight over watching the television. We do like some of the same things especially music .I wish I had a sister so I could talk to her.
