Science fact or fiction

A young reviewer discovers that media truth is sometimes invented.

Children's Express journalists review what's on offer at the 2001 Belfast Festival at Queens.

The talk also revealed that some of the footage shown in ‘Blue Planet,’ was not real.

I was by far the youngest person in the audience (October 27) but I must admit I still found this BT Talk entertaining and educational. It was topical and considered how the media interprets science and at times misrepresents it.

Simon Singh, Dr. Raj Persaud and Sanjida O'Connell participated in an impressive discussion around the media's presentation and impact on science.

The talks also revealed that some of the footage shown in 'Blue Planet,' a documentary on sea-life was not real. Some of the fish filmed in the abyss were actually computer generated. If a live fish was brought up from such depths the change in pressure would make it explode.

"I actually enjoyed it but that is maybe because I am into science," said Conor Magowan Greene, 11.
