Do teachers treat their students fairly? Do they punish them too much, or not enough? Children's Express reporters find out what young people really think of the person at the head of the classroom.
| Some teachers are nice but some of them are horrible, absolutely horrible. |
Julian Chalmers, 9, Benton: I don't think my teachers are unfair that much. The teacher that I've got at the moment is perfectly all right. t's only not when other people do something wrong. The only time that my parents get asked up to the school is for parents' evening.
There is this one boy who gets sent out of the class quite a lot of times because he acts stupid and doesn't get on with his work. My teachers never make me feel embarrassed. I get on quite good with them. I think teachers are quite reasonable with punishment when children are naughty. I think supply teachers are all right I guess, but some of them can be a bit meaner than others. Apart from that they are quite nice.
Mark Wheeler, 8, Sunderland: I don't think teachers are unfair. I feel that my teacher is fine and I do good work for her. My parents have been asked up to the school. If someone is naughty my teacher will send them out of the class, then ring someone up and a car will come to collect them. My teacher has never made me feel embarrassed, but I don't really get on that well with my teacher. I don't think children get punished enough in school. I think supply teachers are okay actually.
Scott Rainey, 11, Cowgate: I think teachers are very unfair because if you do something wrong they absolutely tell you off. We get different teachers for every lesson. Some of my teachers are nice and some of them are horrible. My parents have not been asked up to school yet. Children get sent out of the class about 20 times a day because of their laughing and carrying on in the middle of the lessons, swinging on the chairs, hoying pens and all that kind of stuff.
One time my teacher made me feel embarrassed by coming in my class and asking if I had hit anybody. I said no, but she kept on asking us and asking us. My face just went red without everyone staring at us. I do get on well with my teachers, but I think children get punished too much.
Garry Woods, 10, Cowgate: Teachers can be unfair, sort of. Some of them are nice but some of them are horrible, absolutely horrible. Sometimes I have been asked by the teacher to bring my parents up to the school because I used to be naughty. I used to have fights all the time and pick on people.
Every hour of the day teachers send children out of the class because people disturb their lessons. I do think children get punished enough. My teacher's made us feel embarrassed. She made us stand in front of the class and then she picked on us. I get on well with most of my teachers. Supply teachers are all right, but I had one yesterday and she was horrible. She put us on detention.
Simon Mather, 13, Cowgate: I think the teachers in my school are bad to children. My dad has not been asked to come up to the school, but the teachers do send children out of the class very often for throwing rubbers and pencils. Some of the teachers are okay, but I don't think children get punished enough. I don't really like supply teachers because they don't really know anything. My teachers never try to embarrass me or make me feel small.
Gavin Mather, 12, Cowgate: I do think teachers are unfair because they sometimes give you detention. My dad has never been asked up to the school to have a word with my teacher. The teacher sends children out of the class quite a lot, mornings and afternoons. My teacher doesn't make me feel embarrassed or small. Sometimes I get on well with them. I do think that children get punished enough. I quite like supply teachers, because you can get away with most things that you cannot get away with normal teachers.
