With the new school term upon us, this week's junior jury look at school uniforms.
| Our uniform is a green horrible thing: green skirt, green tights, green V-neck jumper, blue shirt and a horrible tie. |
Emma Robson, 9, Newcastle
I think children should have to wear a uniform. I go to St Joseph's Primary School. Our school uniform is grey with a white T-shirt and red jumper. I like it. It stands out and people know what school you're from. My ideal school uniform would be black and white.
Kelly Rae, 13, Burradon
I don't think children should be made to wear uniforms. At Seaton Burn school we have to wear a uniform for school. It's a blue jumper, black pants, bold writing on the jumper and a tie. I don't like it. I would rather wear anything else.
Chloe Gilmour, 13, Whitley Bay
I go to Monkseaton High where we have to wear a school uniform. It's grey and it's got a Monkseaton High logo on it. You can't wear trainers and you have to have grey or black pants.
It's a better uniform than the one at my last school, Valley Gardens Middle. There you had a jumper and you had to wear a tie. At Monkseaton you don't have to wear a tie.
I don't think young people should have to wear uniforms though. They should be allowed to wear what they want. I would rather wear my regular clothes, like tracksuits.
Victoria Collins, 13, Rowlands Gill
I go to Newcastle Upon Tyne Church High School. Our uniform is a green horrible thing. It's disgusting. It's a green skirt, green tights, green V-neck jumper, blue shirt and a horrible tie. The skirt is all right I suppose, but the tights I don't like.
We also have a sports uniform which is horrible. It's like a green jogging suit and I don't like that at all. The thinking behind having a school uniform is all right. You don't argue about what clothes you're wearing and you don't have to change every day. I would prefer a black skirt and a blue shirt, something plain and not green.
Kay Fitzpatrick, 10, Dunston
Our school uniform at St Phillip Neri is a red polo shirt, a blue top with the school name on and a skirt. We have to wear it but I don't think we should be made to. I would rather wear my normal everyday clothes.
Lindsay Gallagher, 11, North Shields
My uniform is black and white. The jumper is black and white with writing on it. I like wearing my school uniform. It fits OK and it looks really nice on you. I agree with children wearing school uniform.
Lara Knox, 12, Whitley Bay
I start at Monkseaton School in September. We have to wear a uniform. It's a grey jumper, white shirt, purple and black tie, and black pants. I like it. It looks smart.
