It runs rings round Harry!

Sorry Hogwarts - Middle Earth is where the action is, according to CE's young reviewers.

Magic - that was the verdict of a group of budding reviewers who the Evening Mail sent to watch Lord of the Rings.

It’s hard to have a favourite bit when the whole film is excellent.

The movie opened to packed cinemas across the country yesterday and among the audience at the Odeon in New Street was a group of youngsters - who gave it a sparkling four stars out of five.

Michael Williams, aged 12, said: "I thought the film was brilliant and will definitely be a box office smash.

"It had me on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. It was frightening in some parts - and may scare younger children.

"It is hard to have a favourite bit when the whole film is excellent. There is everything you need make what I call a brilliant film - action, suspense, adventure and plenty of very impressive special effects.

"If you have not read the Fellowship of the Ring book - it does not really matter because you can understand what is happening as the plot is so cleverly put together.

"Overall I think it is one of the best films I have ever seen and I cannot wait for the next one to come out. I also think that The Lord of the Rings will run rings around Harry Potter."

Hannah Welsh aged 15 said: "The Lord of the Rings is a film for all ages. It is exciting and fun. It has love, hate, happiness and sadness and it is also funny. You never know what is going to happen next or jump out at you.

"The special effects rule and the monsters are cool. I thought that the costumes were really imaginative."

Jonathan Hudson aged 14, said: "The film was a bit long but made up for it by being jam packed full of action!

"As a boy I can relate to the characters as all the main ones are male but I think women may be alienated by the plot. I can understand why the film was firstly going to be rated a 12 - some of the scenes are violent.

"This is a must-see Christmas film - or you’ll regret it."
