In a world where apparently tone-deaf singers make obscene amounts of money, this week our young pundits answer the question: Do you need talent to be a pop star?

If you make music for little children, you don't need much talent. Small children aren't looking for the quality of the voice; they are looking for people that make a catchy song to sing along to. If you are aiming for teenagers, then you need some talent (and a cute face) because we will suss you out in the end. If you are aiming for adults, then you need a lot of talent because they know a good voice when they hear one.

I don't know why people like Steps make it because they can't sing. On the other hand, S Club 7 are babies but they can sing. With the exception of Bradley, they get on my nerves. Younger children may like them but teenagers probably won't. You do need talent, you need to be able to sing at least. However the Spice Girls can't sing but they made it big so that goes to prove that children go for bands like that.

Do you need talent to move your lips without actually singing, let other people dress you, do your make up and tell you how to move and what to say? I'm sure it helps if you have shiny hair, but talent... no. It takes more talent to get these imbeciles to no.1 from behind the scenes than it does to be the one actually performing Top of the Pops.

You don't need as much talent as you used to. Nowadays you can just go to a studio and they put special effects with your voice to make it sound better. Did you hear Sonique sing at the Brit Awards? My mum said I could do better with a frog in my mouth. I suppose I shouldn't be horrible to her because I think everyone would be nervous if they knew they where going to sing live in front of millions of people.

You should really have some talent to be a pop star but then again some people that are famous don't have any at all. Some performers really can sing like Pink and Whitney Houston, they've got really good voices. But some obviously can't, like Steps and Atomic Kitten.
Loui-Marie, Ebanks, 12.
You don't need talent to be a pop star because any one can go along to an audition like the Spice Girls did. I think the Spice Girls have no talent except for Mel C who is a good singer and the strongest singer in the band. Apart from her dirty dancing, Britney Spears has talent and her singing is great.
