The day after the Prime Minister's son was arrested in Leicester Square for being drunk and incapable, Children's Express was invited to write an open letter to Euan Blair, broadcast on the 'Today' programme.
| I’m pleased to know that you’re one of us, and not just a toffee-nosed posh boy. |
Dear Euan
I heard about your little adventure and was very happy to hear that you are human, and not just the Prime Minister's son. Welcome to the club - millions of teenagers behave just like you did.
I'm sixteen and have just finished my GCSEs - just like you. My whole class went off and had their own parties and did their own thing when their exams were over. A lot of the celebrating will have involved falling down drunk.
Unlike my friends, I didn't get that chance, because I keep to my mum's rules and standards, and like your Mum, she respects the law. There's nothing wrong with you having a drink at a party or with your mum and dad, but going out and getting drunk in public is not the way to go about being the Prime Minister's son.
True - if it was any other teenager, none of us would have ever known about your night out. But the fact is you're the Prime Ministers son, and even though your friends might be going out to celebrate, you should have used some self-restraint.
You've put your dad in a very awkward position. I'm pleased to know that you're one of us, and not just a toffee-nosed posh boy. I feel sorry for you that you were born into a family which is so closely watched by the media. But you were, and you get the privileges to go with being a Blair as well.
I commend you for showing us the real you, but if it was me, I wouldn't have found such an embarrassing way to do it.
