Headliners to launch photography exhibition and magazine

Youth media group Headliners will hold a combined double launch next Tuesday, July 3, 2007 of a new photographic art exhibition and their new magazine, Off the Walls.

The launch, will take place in The Junction on Bishop St at 6pm. The exhibition will run from July 3 to July 10, 2007.

It showcases two projects in which over 30 young people have participated over the past couple of months.

The photographic art exhibition, When Cultures Meet features work created by young people from ethnic minority groups within the North West, highlighting their experiences of coming to terms with their new lives in Derry and Letterkenny.

This project also explores cultural differences and language barriers. Young people from Poland, Ghana, Iran, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Headliners have participated in this unique project.

This piece of work explores the concept of the North West becoming a “Multi-Cultural society,” a society that is inclusive of all for all.

Off the Walls

On the night the first edition of our new glossy young people’s magazine, Off the Walls will also be launched. Over the last eight weeks, nine reporters from Headliners have worked alongside Citizen Editor Leona O’Neill, who volunteered her time to support this project.

The first edition includes a feature interview with Birmingham Indie new boys The Twang just before their recent Nerve Centre gig, as well as an alternative guide to 10 things you can do in the city for free during the holidays. And much more!

The project has been funded by the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Department for Social Inclusion under the Community Volunteering Scheme. We like to extend an open invitation to all. Refreshments will be provided.
