What is life really like for teenagers living in Hackney and Islington today? A set of compelling self-portrait photographs give us some insight into the lives of five young people from a generation of people labelled as ‘yobs’ and ‘gangsters’. Their pictures tell a thousand tales.
Local teenagers from Hackney and Islington display their work at La Viande Gallery near Old Street. After months of hard work five local teenagers get the opportunity of a lifetime by having their work displayed at a professional art gallery. Their photographs portray what life is really like for young people today living in Hackney and Islington through a set of compelling self-portraits.
The young photographers are members of Headliners, a children’s charity with offices in Islington and Hackney. They have been working with a professional photographer for several months to produce their self-portraits. Before the project most of the young people had hardly ever used a camera.
The private viewing and press night is on Monday 21st May from 6.30 – 8.30pm where you will have the chance to meet and interview the teenage artists.
The exhibition is open to the general public on:
