Project Subway
Information on Project Subway, a two-year outreach programme operating in several London boroughs.
Project Subway is a two-year project funded by the European Social Fund and the Learning and Skills Council to provide accredited training to young people aged 14-19.
The project operates in five boroughs in London: Islington, Westminster, Camden, Southwark and Lambeth. Delegates were chosen through a variety of methods; including Pupil Referral Units, youth clubs, partnerships with other charities, colleges working with at risk groups and self-selection.
Each group involved a 20-week course (or equivalent hours) using the Open College Network's accredited Introduction to Journalism programme; allowing young people the opportunity to learn and participate in different media types, from producing magazines, to radio and TV work. Delegates also visted different media organisations, including Channel 4 News, The Voice newspaper and Colourful Radio.
You can find examples of recent work undertaken by Project Subway, or PDF versions of recent magazines produced are listed to the right.
